Don’t forget to protect yourselves: sunscreen and a hat are a must in your backpack, so don’t forget to bring them. You’ll be exposed to the sun for hours, so the little ones will need to be protected.
Carry water: water is essential to stay hydrated and avoid problems. Bring at least 1 litre per person.
Snacks: even if you think you’ll arrive by lunchtime, it’s best to take some food with you in case you take longer than you think. In these cases, nuts and fruit are the best option.
Gloves: in some areas of the route, they will help you. It is a perfect route for mountaineering with children, but you should always be well equipped.

A beautiful route for all the family

The first thing you need to know is that this is a moderately difficult route. The Cabeço d’Or mountain range has beautiful views and is a perfect place for the youngest hikers to gradually introduce themselves to climbing. They are going to have a great time.

The route

It is a circular 5-km route with a difference in altitude of 157 metres that you will have to overcome. There is plenty of parking space in the Cuevas de Canelobre. The walk starts right next to where you park your car. The first important point is the Homenet canal, where you will have to do a section along it and then reach a fairly steep climb that will take you up to Penya de Malena. Here you’ll start seeing the most daring climbers climbing the walls.

Afterwards, you’ll have to go to Peña Napia and do a couple of climbs. You don’t have to rush; take it easy to teach the little ones.

Next, you will pass Cresta de Les Cove and return to Penya de Malena, where you will enjoy some incredible walls and views that will take your breath away.

Finally, you have to go to the ruins of Casa Polset, a very interesting area to stop for a bite to eat and to rest a bit, because you deserve it! Afterwards, you will have to go down an incredible descent to Homenet canal. This is the area where you have to be most careful, as the stones are rather slippery and you have to take it easy and watch where you put your hands. It’s a great time to test the children’s skills and get them hooked on this beautiful discipline.

Don’t forget to enjoy the scenery

Now that you have the tips for Cabeço d’Or with kids, you’ll definitely want to know more about the area. We’ll tell you all about it right here! Read on below.
