Where to spend Easter with the family: plans for guaranteed success

Ideas for spending Easter in Benidorm with the family

If you have decided to spend this Easter with your family, Benidorm is a city that is full of life throughout the year and one of the places with the greatest selection of leisure activities in the world.

1. Route through the old town of Benidorm

Located between Parque de Elche and Plaza Triangular, the old town is situated in the very centre of Benidorm. There, you can learn about the origins of this fishing village and be dazzled by stories of pirates who attacked and destroyed the old castle of Punta Canfali, a natural cliff that separates the town’s two main beaches. You can also enjoy the magnificent views offered by its viewpoint at different heights.

The port area is also very picturesque and sure to delight passers-by. From here, we can also see the glow of the lighthouse during a stunning night-time walk with the family.

You should also visit the Plaza de Santa Ana, overlooked by four restored 19th century cannons, which the French launched into the sea during the occupation. Stroll through the oldest streets of the city, always full of life and entertainment, and discover the Plaza del Castell where the old fortress was previously located, the Parroquia de San Jaime, built between the years 1740 and 1780, and the Paseo de la Carretera, among many other locations.

2. Rich cuisine

As a result of its renowned fishing culture, the cuisine of Benidorm centres around the sea. Here, you can try dishes such as arroz a banda (rice with seafood) or arroz caldoso (brothy rize) with anchovies. You’ll also find pescado a lo pobre (fish casserole), the coca farcida (stuffed pie), and stuffed peppers or squid – very typical in Benidorm cuisine. You can also find soups and stews such as stewed beans, a common dish in the area. Finally, you can enjoy quality sweets and desserts such as the San Blas cake, the Benidorm cake or the sweet potato cake. A treat for the palate during your Easter in Benidorm.

3. Family hikes

Within its municipal boundaries, Benidorm includes an exclusive Coastal Area Natural Park, in what is known as Serra Gelada. This protected area features various hiking routes scattered between cliffs hundreds of metres high, impressive coves and abundant flora and fauna. You can also visit the Albir lighthouse or the Punta del Cavall. Don’t forget to photograph the wonderful views that you’ll find along the way – they’re sure to be some of your best memories of your holiday in Benidorm.

4. Cycling routes and paths

Another fun way to get to know Benidorm is to do it on wheels. You can find guided excursions or plan them on your own. Enjoy the bicycle routes that you’ll find throughout the city and stop to enjoy the wonderful views offered in many of its best spots. Practise your favourite sport in your Easter with the family.

5. Snorkel

Of course, Benidorm has a great choice of activities in terms of water sports. In addition to surfing, diving, boat trips, jet skiing, paddle surfing and kayaking, you can try your hand at snorkelling. If everyone in the family knows how to swim, this is a fantastic recommendation. The coves in the area and its island are the best places to enjoy the beauty of all its marine life. If you’ve never had the opportunity to try it before, there are a multitude of schools that offer fascinating courses to get you started.

6. Enjoy its five beaches

Beaches aren’t just for summer. If you’ve come to spend Easter with your family, aside from taking a dip and soaking up the sun’s rays, you can take a relaxing family walk, play in the sand or even practise sports. The beaches of Benidorm have small play areas distributed every few metres for the little ones’ enjoyment.

7. Visit the L’Aigüera Park

In the heart of the city you’ll find this linear park. Considered the green lung of Benidorm and designed in the neoclassical style, it serves to separate the old part of the city from the skyscraper area.

Its extensive gardens, groves and paths are a magnificent setting for a quiet family outing, on foot or by bicycle. It also includes amphitheatres where cultural events and open-air concerts are held. At the end of the park you’ll find the Plaza de Toros, a site developed for the hosting of various festivities and fairs.

As you can see, there are plenty of great ways to enjoy Easter with the family in Benidorm.
