Ten emblematic ascents in Alicante

Now’s the time to climb to the top. Before you start an expedition, you must take into account factors such as temperature, terrain and incline. The classic mountains in the province of Alicante hold all kinds of surprises and incredible places. If you want to discover them, stay with us.

The Serra d’Aitana

It’s the highest mountain in the province, at more than 1500 metres high. Although it can be climbed in any season, in winter you have to take precautions due to the accumulation of snow. In any case, contemplating the white landscape is an unbeatable attraction. It’s worth ascending from Font de Partegat on a 10 km circular route that lasts between 4 and 5 hours.

The Puig Campana

You’re facing the second highest mountain in the province, at 1406 metres. Hiking through the Puig Campana is a challenge because it’s the mountain with the greatest incline. You can reach the top through a circular route which passes through the Font de la Solsida and reaches the crossroads of Coll del Pouet, located on the north face, since the south ascent is a stony terrain. You’ll pass the José Manuel Vera refuge as you descend.

The Montcabrer

It’s one of the highest mountains in Alicante, 1390 metres, and is located in the Serra de Mariola. It stands out for having a landscape that was declared a National Park in 2002. It offers you the option of doing a circular route, leaving from Agres and arriving at the Great Archway.

The Serra de la Serrella

Also known as “the Alicante Pyrenees”, it’s one of the wildest places in the province. Its most outstanding mountains are La Mallada del Llop and Pla de la Casa, at more than 1370 metres high. You’ll be able to ascend by different paths.

The Menejador

The Carrascar Natural Park is in this mountain range. A Mediterranean forest perfect for hiking in Alicante accompanied by family and friends. The highest peak is close to 1360 metres and you can also take different routes to reach it.

The Cabeçó d’Or

It’s a classic mountain in the province, which reaches 1206 metres in height. It’s very close to the city, which makes it very popular. You can climb it by taking a circular route that starts at the Pla de la Gralla car park, ascending to the Casa del Polset and finally reaching the summit by a circular path.

Serra de Bèrnia

This mountain range is known for its legendary ridge of 1128 metres. There are different ways to climb it, the best known being Les cases de Bèrnia, located in the north. Although ascending from the Fuentes de Algar is another interesting possibility.

The Benicadell

Although it’s only 1104 metres high, it’s one of the most dazzling mountains in Alicante. In addition, it serves to separate the Alicante region of El Combat and the Valencian region Vall d’Albaida. One of the most recommended routes begins in Gaianes.

The Montgó

This 753 metre high mountain is located in the Marina Alta region in the El Montgó Natural Park. Its ascent is harder than it seems, and from above you can see the island of Ibiza on a clear day. A very interesting route you can take begins by going around the mountain along the Camí de la Colonia and continues along the path that reaches La Plana del Cap de Sant Antoni. Here, the road is rougher and the route becomes more difficult.

Serra de Fontcalent

It’s one of the most forgotten places, but no less attractive and interesting because of that. It’s also close to Alicante and its highest elevation only reaches 446 metres, but its environmental beauty is unmatched.
