An international competition
The director of the Spanish event, which will take place on April the 27th, explains that open-water swimming is a sport that has been growing. It is accessible to all and allows you to combine the enjoyment of active tourism with sport.
Swimmers taking part in this international competition must have come in the top 10 in the circuit trials, according to the results obtained in other seasonal competitions. It will bring together thousands of amature swimmers and open water specialists from around the world, with both male and female competitions.
This season, the Oceanman event will be held in 18 venues, according to the organisers. In America it will take place in Cozumel, as well as in Yucatán and San Andrés, Colombia. These two venues are making their debut this year in the Oceanman competition. In Spain it will only be taking place in Benidorm.
Other venues in Europa and Asia are Cyprus, France, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Malaysia, Romania, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Russia will participate with two venues, Sochi and Moscow. Italy will also have two venues, Polignano and Lake Orta.

In each of the venues three trials will be organised in which 300 swimmers will participate for each one. The long distance swim of 10 kilometres, the medium of 5.5 kilometres and the Sprint race of 1.5 kilometres designed to get beginner swimmers involved.
For each of the trials a wetsuit must be worn if the water temperature is below 18 degrees celsius. The forecasts estimate that it will oscillate between 17 and 20 degrees.
The most demanding and highly anticipated trial, Oceanman, starts at 9 o’clock and consists of a circular route measuring 10 kilometres starting and ending at Mal Pas beach, with two refuelling and hydration points along the way to provide assistance to the swimmers.
For Half Oceanman, the 5.5-kilometre competition, the swim starts at 10:30 am on the Island of Benidorm and ends at Mal Pas beach, with one refuelling point. The Sprint race, which does not include a refuelling point, starts at 12 noon on Mal Pas beach, which is also where the race ends.
